In most jurisdictions, donations made to a charitable organization qualify for a tax receipt that allows the donor to deduct the amount of the donation from his or her gross income when calculating income tax.

Regardless of which event you may be running, be sure to get professional advice on the extent to which donations qualify for tax receipts.

If a tax receipt is available for some minimum level of donation, or if a tax receipt comes automatically with the price of an event ticket, be sure to advertise this fact; to some potential participants, this could be an important consideration.
